Wallet Story

Hello everyone!

My name is Scott Goodwin and I created the SÜLgear Adventure Wallet due to necessity and the SÜLgear Passport Wallet due to demand. Let me explain with a wild story.

I long distance hike, motorcycle tour, adventure travel, and generally spend as much time outdoors as possible. On my long distance hiking trips I used a small Ziploc to store my ID, cash, and cards. I was always scared of losing my "Ziploc wallet" which would be a disaster. I began thinking about a better way of securing my ID, cards, and cash on my person while out and about. Unfortunately, thoughts of an "Adventure Wallet" faded once I returned home.

Fast forward a year or so and I find myself on a motorcycle trip. On these trips I kept my wallet in my tank bag.

I pull over to a rest area, open my tank bag for something, and unbeknownst to me my wallet falls out. About an hour later I stop again and have a voicemail from my credit card company telling me they're sorry I lost my credit card and they'll send a new one. I thought this was a scam so I called and said I didn't lose my credit card. It's inside my wallet which is in my tank bag. I look through my tank bag and indeed my wallet was gone. Far from home. No money. No ID. Low on gas. Freak-out begins.

Luckily I was about two hours from my brother's house.

My wife calls soon after I arrive and says our county sheriff called and has information about my wallet and to call them. Confusion ensues. How does the county sheriff know anything about my recently lost wallet?

As it turns out a motorcycle club arrived at the rest stop shortly after I left and found my wallet on the ground (with $300 cash inside too). They called my credit card company to have them contact me, but they wouldn't do anything but cancel the card. From my license they knew the county I lived and contacted the sheriff and that's how the sheriff ended up calling my house.

Wild huh?

The motorcycle club was staying at a hotel a few hours away and left my wallet with the manager. The next day I made the ride to the hotel and retrieved my wallet then continued my trip. Would you believe the cash was still there. Faith in humanity restored.... if only for a little while.

That's when I decided I must find a better way to secure my cash, cards, and ID when traveling. I searched everywhere for a solution, but found nothing that fit my requirements.

Since I did a lot of long distance hiking I was familiar an exotic fabric called Dyneema Composite Fabric which is ultra light, ultra strong, and waterproof. I ordered some fabric and started creating designs. I became obsessed with creating the perfect "Adventure Wallet". Over a year, and countless iterations later, I was finally satisfied with my creation.

I began testing my wallet by wearing and using one every day as my only wallet. A funny thing happened. People loved it, always had questions, and wanted to know where I got it.

I made the Adventure Wallet to keep my cash, cards, and ID secured on my person at all times when traveling, but people wanted one for everyday use.  Interestingly enough I never returned to a traditional wallet. My Adventure Wallet is my only wallet now.

Soon after I began selling the Adventure Wallet I began receiving requests for a passport sized wallet like the Adventure Wallet and that's how the Passport Wallet came to be.

I never thought I'd be in the wallet business, but sometimes when you want something no one creates you just gotta do it yourself.
